Library Love

Maybe I'm a bit slow but I've just discovered the online library hold system: I search through the online library catalogue, put the books on hold, and somebody at the library gathers the books together and has them ready and waiting for me at the library. No wandering up and down the aisles, kids in tow, looking for books that are supposed to be there. (And does anybody else remember the old days of the card catalogue system? Ahhh fond memories. My Nanna used to be a school librarian so I spent many childhood hours in the library).

I love the fact that kids can have library cards. Actually, I love the fact that they don't charge overdue fees on kids' library cards. We now have cards for Shmoo and Loo so that's 30 books. Sounds like a lot but we do it easily each library trip. We get bedtime reading books, books for Shmoo and Loo to practice reading by themselves, and then heaps of books for whatever our current 'theme' (unit study) is.

As it's only mid-Feb, we haven't done too many unit studies so far, just a short one on Australia and we're drawing to the end of a study on the seasons. We'll be doing a unit on astronomy next, making the most of having an astronomer staying with us at the moment!

  1. *sigh* I love Talis and the library! I also love the no charge on childrens card thing, I try to get them back on time but it just doesn't happen some times. :)
